County Kildare VEC will be seeking support when the Department of Education and Skills conducts its survey in 2013. The VEC has a proven track record in delivering first class education in the county for over 80 years from pre-school to primary, second level and life long learning via our Adult and Further Education programmes. What is a Community National School?  A Community National School is a new model of National School under the Patronage of the VEC.  It operates within the regulations laid down by the Department of Education and Skills and follows the Primary Curriculum.

The Community National School’s recognise the wishes of parents to have their children receive a co-educational and multi-belief programme of education within the school day.  They acknowledge and respect the diversity of values, beliefs, languages and traditions in Irish Society today and welcome children from families of all faiths and none.

Kildare VEC awarded patronage of two new schools

Kildare VEC are delighted with the announcement by Minister for Education & Skills, Ruairí Quinn T.D. to grant the Patronage of two new schools (one in Maynooth and one in Naas) to the VEC.

Welcoming yesterday’s announcement the VEC Chairman Cllr Mark Wall said “this announcement is a tremendous vote of confidence in Public education and in particular the model of education  on offer by Kildare VEC”.  “As Chairman I extend my congratulations and those of my fellow VEC members, to all involved in securing these projects for Kildare VEC “

The Chief Executive Officer of Kildare VEC, Sean Ashe, extended his thanks to the many parents who voted in significant numbers in support of Kildare VEC  as patron and to the teachers and staff who worked tirelessly to achieve this outcome.

Mr Ashe further stated that these projects are significant for Kildare VEC, as the construction of the two schools in Maynooth together with a new primary school for St Davids in Naas and a significant extension to St Conleths in Newbridge have been devolved to the VEC.  He set the target date for delivery of these projects as September 2014.

Young Scientist Exhibition

The children from the “Thrushes” class of Pipers’ Hill Community National School were presented with a merit award at the Primary Science Fair in the BT Young Scientist exhibition.   The children submitted a proposal in September 2011 and were invited by BT to present their “CSI Pipers Hill” project.  Their investigation related to a forensic analysis of a crime scene and their production of a ‘Book of Evidence’.   Judges were very impressed and commended highly Andreij Filip, Wyona Russell, Fola Sonekan and Lucy Tuohy for their efforts.

The group were thrilled to have been accepted into the Primary Science Fair upon their first application and are already planning next years submission!
